Ingredients
1¾ cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking powder
½ tsp baking soda
1½ tsp ground cinnamon
¼ tsp nutmeg
½ tsp salt
1 cup apple cider (reduced to ½ cup)
½ cup brown sugar
2 large eggs
½ cup buttermilk
¼ cup melted butter
1 tsp vanilla extract
For coating:
½ cup granulated sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
3 tbsp melted butter
Instructions
1. Simmer 1 cup apple cider until reduced to ½ cup, then cool.
2. In a bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
3. In another bowl, whisk reduced cider, eggs, brown sugar, buttermilk, butter, and vanilla.
4. Combine wet and dry ingredients until just mixed.
5. Pipe or spoon batter into greased donut pans.
6. Bake at 350°F for 12–15 minutes until lightly golden.
7. Brush warm donuts with melted butter, then coat in cinnamon sugar.
Notes
Don’t skip reducing the cider, it’s key to flavor.
Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
You can freeze donuts before coating them and coat after reheating.
