- 4 large potatoes, peeled and chopped
- 2 tablespoons butter
- ½ cup milk
- 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or your favorite)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- 1 prepared pie crust (store-bought or homemade)
- Fresh herbs (like chives or parsley) for added flavor, optional
Instructions
- Peel and chop the potatoes into small pieces.
- Boil the potatoes in a pot of salted water until fork-tender, about 15 to 20 minutes. Drain and return the potatoes to the pot.
- Add butter, milk, and shredded cheese to the hot potatoes. Mash until smooth and season with salt and pepper.
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Roll out the prepared pie crust into a pie dish. Pour the creamy potato mixture into the crust and spread evenly.
- Brush the edges of the crust with the beaten egg.
- Bake the pie for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.
- Let it cool slightly before slicing and serving.
Notes
Feel free to add cooked bacon or ham for a heartier dish. Mix in vegetables like peas or corn for extra nutrition.
