Ingredients
1 pound ground beef
4 medium potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
1 medium onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon paprika
½ teaspoon dried thyme
2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons flour
1½ cups milk
1½ cups shredded cheddar cheese
Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
2. In a skillet, brown ground beef with onion and garlic. Add seasonings. Drain.
3. Make cheese sauce: melt butter, whisk in flour, add milk, and stir until thick. Add cheese.
4. Layer potatoes, beef, and sauce in the dish. Repeat layers. Top with extra cheese.
5. Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Uncover and bake 15 more minutes.
6. Let it rest 10 minutes before serving.
Notes
Use a mandoline for uniform potato slices.
Add cooked veggies like mushrooms or peas for variety.
