- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Red food coloring (optional)
- Sprinkles (optional)
Instructions
- In a bowl, whisk together the flour and baking powder.
- In another bowl, cream the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the egg and vanilla extract.
- Gradually mix in the dry ingredients until just combined.
- If desired, divide the dough in half and mix red food coloring into one half to create a contrasting color.
- Shape the dough into logs and roll in plastic wrap.
- Chill in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Slice the chilled dough into 1/4-inch thick cookies and arrange on a baking sheet.
- If using, sprinkle with sprinkles.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are golden.
- Allow to cool on a wire rack and enjoy!
Notes
Chill well for clean slicing. Use room temperature butter for better creaming.
