- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 large egg
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup brown butter
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1/4 cup maple syrup
- 1 teaspoon vanilla bean paste or vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In a separate large bowl, cream together the sugar and butter until light and fluffy.
- Mix in the egg, buttermilk, and vanilla extract until well combined.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and smooth the top.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- While the bars are baking, prepare the glaze by whisking together brown butter, powdered sugar, maple syrup, and vanilla bean paste until smooth.
- Once the bars are done, let them cool for a few minutes before cutting them into bars.
- Drizzle the glaze over the warm bars before serving.

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerate for up to a week.
