Ingredients

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Green food coloring
  • Powdered sugar (for dusting)
  • Decorative sprinkles (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 225°F (110°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, beat the egg whites with an electric mixer until frothy.
  3. Add the cream of tartar and continue to beat until soft peaks form.
  4. Gradually add the granulated sugar, one tablespoon at a time, while continuing to beat until stiff peaks form and the mixture is glossy.
  5. Stir in the vanilla extract and a few drops of green food coloring until you reach your desired shade.
  6. Use a piping bag fitted with a star tip to pipe tree shapes onto the prepared baking sheet.
  7. Bake for about 60-90 minutes, until the meringue is dry and can easily be lifted off the parchment paper.
  8. Let them cool completely before dusting with powdered sugar and adding decorative sprinkles if desired.
